This is my ‘new’ mitre/cross-cut sled and it works brilliantly; very accurate. Will cut from 90° and 45° cuts and any angle in between. I’ve incorporated a recess at the bottom of the fence to accommodate replaceable backing pieces to reduce the chance of tear-out. Also an ‘outboard’ fence which obviously slides independently.
My sled is loosely based on the Incra Miter Express, which looks a great bit of kit but along with the required additional mitre gauge it’s way too expensive for me at around £350.
I set the fence up to make accurate 90° cuts using the method demonstrated by William Ng in his video: 5 Cuts to a “Perfect” Cross-Cut Sled
At first it may seem like a lot of unnecessary faffing about but I can testify from experience that it’s well worth the effort, if you want to produce perfect right-angles.
